Some morning musings…

Perspective.

There’s always more than one.  Always shaped by our story, our view, or experience, our protective mechanisms – our ‘lens.’

One perspective is usually easier to look at – softer on our eye, ear and thinking.  It’s comfortable.  It therefore requires a conscious choice to see another’s perspective.  It requires a further choice to believe it as valid, try to understand why it is there, and yet another choice to allow the new understanding of a different perspective to significantly change or alter our own original one.

This is the journey of Thrive Together.  The journey towards creating belonging for everyone, so we begin to see and understand others more deeply and adjust our own thinking to accept and embrace that which is ‘alternative’ to us and our views.

In this, there is space for everyone, validity in our diversity and a richness that comes when we have a broader new perspective.

The challenges for me in making choices to ‘see’ the alternative perspectives are discomfort (mainly emotional), pride (I like to be ‘right’) and capacity.  So I make the conscious choice, again, to find, build and create capacity, to be willing to sit with discomfort, and to acknowledge daily that I am not ‘right,’ that my own view is, in and of itself, an alternative to someone else’s perspective.

My morning’s perspective-changing perspectives.
